Open Enrollment and How it Can Affect You
If you find yourself new to the United States, you may currently be familiarizing yourself with the medical health landscape in this country. Terms you may be hearing often are "Obamacare" or "open enrollment."
What is Obamacare?
Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act is tax credit based on income. Its main goal is to help provide medical insurance for people of all different incomes or preexisting conditions.
What is open enrollment?
Open enrollment season is a period of time once a year where you can sign up or change your health insurance coverage. Open enrollment season begins November 1st and lasts until January 15.
What if I am an asylee? or not yet a resident of the
USA
If you are new to the USA, be careful being sold a product that you do not qualify for. This could put your asylum request into question. If you are not a legal resident and have no work permit you cannot report income, therefore you cannot qualify for a tax credit to get Obamacare. This is grounds for deportation.
