“Mom, When are You Going to the Doctor?”

Hispanic Women Health Disparities

‘So, Mom, When ARE You Going to Make a Doctor’s Appointment?’

Because let’s be honest…

In many Hispanic families, Mom takes care of EVERYTHING.

  • She makes the kids’ appointments.
  • She picks up the medications.
  • She reminds everyone to take their pills.
  • She takes care of Grandma.
  • She works.
  • Cooks.
  • Solves problems.

But when you ask her when she last had a checkup…

  • “I’ll go later.”
  • “I don’t have time.”
  • “I’m fine.”

Why Do Hispanic Women Have Bad Health?

The problem is that many of these moms get used to putting up with it.

They put up with the exhaustion.
They put up with the pain.
They put up with the stress.
They endure symptoms for months because they feel there’s always something more important to do first.

And often it’s not because they don’t want to take care of themselves.

It’s because:

  • appointments take too long
  • everything is expensive
  • finding the time is difficult
  • and the healthcare system can feel complicated and frustrating

The “I’ll Take Care of Everything” Generation

Many Hispanic moms grew up with the mindset of handling everything on their own.

Even when they’re exhausted.
Even when they’re in pain.
Even if they clearly need to rest or get checked out.

And in the meantime, the whole family depends on them.

That’s why this Mother’s Day we want to remind you of something important:

Mom deserves care, too.
